Police Activity - Blue Alert - Mountain Communities

Multiple agencies across the mountain are mobilizing and staging as a result of an individual who is the suspect of a Blue Alert. It is strongly believed that he is in the mountain communities, is armed and dangerous and should, under no circumstances, be approached. Units are staging in various communities, including Big Bear, Running Springs, Arrowbear and Twin Peaks, with air ship back up being brought in for the search as well.

If you happen upon and area of extreme activity, please vacate the area immediately. What we post will be limited, in cooperation with LEO, who is concerned that this individual has access to technology that could allow him to monitor this site and scanners.

To update, the suspects burned out vehicle was found in Big Bear this morning, still smoldering. Incident Command has established a Command Post in the over flow parking lot of Big Bear ski resort, approx. 1/2 below the resort itself. Units are actively staging in that area, with a strike teams on order.

BVUSD has confirmed that Big Bear Schools are on lock down.

Correction to the location of the Incident Command Post: They are staged in the parking lot for the golf course, which is directly across the street from the main Bear Mtn parking lot, on Goldmine Dr. It is next to the zoo.

Notice from Bear Mtn.: "We are shutting down Bear Mountain for the afternoon. You’re welcome to use your lift ticket over at Snow Summit or get a voucher for another day in guest services."

BVUSD has stated that school buses will not be running this afternoon, due to this incident. Parents will have to pick their children up at the schools.

The turning weather has caused all Air Ops to be shut down for the night. Visibility is too low to safely fly in the mountains.
